New in the Kitchen

June 23, 2015 By All That I'm Eating 3 Comments

New products in the kitchen Tyrells Poshcorn

It’s great to try out new products in the kitchen, here’s what I’ve been trying this month.Tyrrells Poshcorn

I love the packaging on the Tyrrells Poshcorn and it’s not all style over substance either. I tried the Sweet and Salt, Lightly Salted, Coconut Caramel and Lemon Cupcake. I think the sweet and salt was my favourite (it always is!) but I loved the combination of caramel and coconut. I wouldn’t normally go for lemon cupcake flavour but after having tried it I really liked it; citrusy, sweet and slightly tangy this flavour was really different and enjoyable. I’ll be looking for some other interesting flavours to try when I’m out and about. It was really nice to have something other than crisps to have as a snack with my lunch too and I was pleasantly surprised at the (low) calorie count on all the flavours. Almost guilt free! read more

The Yew Tree Highclere

June 16, 2015 By All That I'm Eating 5 Comments

The Yew Tree Highclere

This was a gifted meal.

The Yew Tree at Highclere is just down the road from me and I’d heard that the refurbishment had really opened up the previously, slightly dingy inside. I really like how open it looks now with books piled high all over the place. They have just developed the garden out the back and I think it’ll be an amazing place for a summer afternoon; they’ve got a fresh fish counter ready for you to choose what you want and get it straight on the BBQ.

I went to try their dinner menu back in late May and really liked the sound of everything on the menu. We started with bread, which came warm (always a bonus) and butter (at spreading temperature) and after the amount of cold bread and rock hard butter I’ve endured in the past this was most welcome! read more

Rocket Gardens

June 8, 2015 By All That I'm Eating 9 Comments

I’m not going to lie. I haven’t been donning my gardening gloves recently as much as I have done in the past. Apparently as you get older you get inexplicably busier and growing my own fruit and veg took a back seat while I was getting on with many other things. Rocket Gardens got in touch to see if I would like to try out one of their kits. Their Patio Container garden seemed like the ideal one for me; lots of it can be grown in pots or grow bags which means minimal prep and digging for me! read more

Buddha Bar Knightsbridge Afternoon Tea

June 3, 2015 By All That I'm Eating 7 Comments

This was a gifted meal.

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only person who likes tea and cake at any time of the day and I have a particular preference for them served together between the hours of 2pm and 4pm. I love it when you can try an afternoon tea with a difference; I have tried a gentlemen’s afternoon tea before complete with mini pork pies and sausage rolls, one that included soup and another with mini ice cream cones. The afternoon tea at Buddha Bar Knightsbridge has a fantastic Asian theme and I was really looking forward to trying it. read more

Smoky Cowboy Beans

May 29, 2015 By All That I'm Eating 10 Comments

I knew what I wanted these smoky cowboy beans to taste like before I made them. The thing I had to do was to work out which ingredients it was that I needed to mix together to make something that tasted like I wanted it to. After a few attempts, a bit of this, less of that and more of the other I have cracked it. Wonderfully smoky, sweet and sticky with a few spices and plenty of beans to make something substantial from ingredients you probably already have in your cupboards and fridge. Weeknight cooking at its best. read more

Abel and Cole Recipe Box

May 23, 2015 By All That I'm Eating 5 Comments

I have tried (I think) all the recipe boxes available now with the Abel and Cole recipe box being the last instalment. I will be doing one review of all that I’ve tried as a big comparison so keep your eyes peeled for that coming soon. Abel and Cole recipe boxes are slightly different to some of the others; they have veggie, simple, foodie and light to choose from with the recipes in each box predetermined. I like this as it means I don’t have to make too many decisions! Abel and Cole were very kind too as I was able to review two of their boxes over consecutive weeks. read more

Arbutus Soho

May 18, 2015 By All That I'm Eating 7 Comments

This was a gifted meal.

I love a trip to London. If I get the good train it’s less than an hour and it’s a great excuse to see some friends who live in the big city. I always try to go somewhere I haven’t been before rather than returning to somewhere I’ve already tried. There’s always something new going on! My most recent trip up was organised to make the most of a restaurant offer from Bookatable. I didn’t actually know until I investigated that there are all sorts of deals available through Bookatable and the one at Michelin starred Arbutus in Soho sounded too good to pass up! I couldn’t wait to go there and get stuck in. read more

Sticky Chilli Pork and Noodles

May 13, 2015 By All That I'm Eating 9 Comments

I’m not sure quite what’s happened but all of a sudden I find myself spending over £50 a week on food shopping. I know, it’s not a shocking amount and it’s certainly less than I know other people spend but it’s twice as much as I used to spend. I didn’t really notice it creeping up over time and I haven’t really changed what I eat (less meat if anything) but it irritates me nonetheless. There’s only so many beans and lentils one person can eat in a week so thrifty meals are essential to give plenty of variation. My sticky chilli pork is quick, tasty and feeds four people for less than £6. read more

Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies

May 7, 2015 By All That I'm Eating 16 Comments

Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies - All That I'm Eating (1 of 3)

Some people bake bread when it rains. I bake whatever contains as much butter and sugar as possible to cheer myself up. I’m not a big fan of rain. I made cookies once before when I was much younger and they didn’t exactly work out like they were supposed to; I made one very large, thin cookie. With the recent bout of cold and rain I felt it was time I attempted cookies again; why not. Mint chocolate chip cookies are much more welcome than precipitation. This recipe makes around 16 cookies: read more

Earl Grey Gin Cocktail

May 3, 2015 By All That I'm Eating 12 Comments

I like tea and I like gin. I particularly like earl grey and gin based cocktails so I thought it was about time that I got creative with my cocktail shaker and tried these two tastes together. Not for my own benefit of course, all in the name of experimenting. Whenever I make a cocktail I am always amazed at how the slight slip of a hand can affect the end taste of the drink; too sweet, too acidic, too much alcohol. Then again, you can add a bit more of this and a bit less of that depending on your tastes. read more
