Farmers’ Markets: The Unsung Heroes

November 29, 2011 By All That I'm Eating 7 Comments

Praises are regularly sung about all the fantastic ingredients you can get from farmers' markets. Fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese are all wonderful artisan ingredients that are picked up and turned into a glorious meal at home. What about those things which you don't use in another meal; the ones that are ready to eat?  Here are some of my farmers' market heroes, the stalls and people you turn to to cheer up your stomach and put a big smile on your Read more

Love Food Hate Waste

June 20, 2011 By All That I'm Eating 9 Comments

Love Food Hate Waste is a campaign I'd heard of before but didn't know too much about. Over the weekend they attended the Newbury farmers' market so I got a chance to find out more about it. It is a national campaign to try and get us all to be less wasteful. Every year in the UK we throw away £10 billion worth of food. That's mad.   Their message is very simple; waste as little food as possible. They've got lots of recipes, tips and useful gadgets Read more

Petersfield Food Festival 2011

June 7, 2011 By All That I'm Eating Leave a Comment

Petersfield is not too far from me and I was informed that there was a food festival taking place with 140 stall holders. Sounded like a pretty good place to be to me! There were so many stalls and so many people it was crazy. Good crazy though. Fortunately there were very many cafés and restaurants around to sit down when you needed a break from shovelling small amounts of chutney in your face.  There were lots of stands doing all sorts of varieties of Read more

Green Park Market – Bath

November 14, 2010 By All That I'm Eating 7 Comments

Bath is not too far from where I reside but for some unknown reason I have only been when I was very young. I had heard whispers of a fantastic market in a train station in Bath and so I set off to find out what it was all about. It's tremendous. I have never met so many specialists that are all so passionate in one place. Even the most tight fisted of people will see moths rise when they open their wallets. It was hard not to buy one of everything. There Read more

Is food the new must have accessory?

November 7, 2010 By All That I'm Eating 11 Comments

It seems that now the latest car, bag, phone or gadget is trumped by what we eat. At the golf club while quaffing the finest scotch the topic of conversation is no longer car related. Now, one might be more likely to hear, "Have you tried a rare white truffle." To which the reply would most likely start off a whole conflab. Now it becomes interesting. It is now a competition to see who has the best/biggest/most expensive or most exclusive truffle. Read more

My Farmers’ Market

September 24, 2010 By All That I'm Eating 14 Comments

Vegetables. There comes a point in everyone’s life where their view on vegetables changes forever. One day one gazes reproachfully at a Jerusalem artichoke, the next, it is seen as an adventure, a culinary experiment. It goes from a, “No way” to a, “Yes” all of a sudden. It creeps up on you and before you know it the vegetables are the star of the meal. The meats and potatoes are a garnish compared to the mighty, majestic broccoli dish that Read more
