As asparagus is only around for a short time, it’s a good thing it’s so versatile. This is another recipe combining classic ingredients in a really easy, quick way.
You will need a bunch of asparagus, 4 or 5 rashers of bacon and a good handful of strong cheese.
Start by placing the asparagus stem down in a pan of boiling water for 4-5 minutes. By placing them stem down the thicker, woodier stems are boiled while the fragile tops steam. While the asparagus boils, cut the bacon into pieces and fry.
Put the asparagus into a baking tray, cover with bacon and then grate cheese over the top. Place this into a preheated oven at 180C for 10 minutes.
This is a great recipe for asparagus because it’s a meal in itself or as a lovely side to absolutely everything. It’d be great with a poached egg on top. Apologies for the lack of photo – Blogger doesn’t seem to be back to normal yet. Just imagine juicy green asparagus with lovely salty caramelised bacon. A delectable thought on its own but this is also covered with melted, stringy, crispy, golden cheese.

Great tip on cooking the asparagus. Will cook it that way next time because the tips always get mushy by the time the bottoms cook!
You explained it perfectly! No need for photo, everything tastes good with bacon an cheese on top!
