So you’re thinking of trying out a recipe box. There are a few different ones to choose from and if you’re wondering where to start, who to choose and whether it’s worth it, do read on. I have tried six of the recipe boxes available and every one of them was tasty, delivered nicely and I cooked something I hadn’t tried before. This recipe box comparison will look at all sorts of things: price, flexibility, ease of recipe, quality and more based on the meals and experience that I had at the time but I have included the prices as of today.
New in the Kitchen February 2016
Although February is the shortest month, this year it seems to have dragged on for some time. Not necessarily a bad thing as it has given me plenty of time to munch (and drink) my way through all sorts of different products that have appeared in my kitchen this month. If you’re looking for new snack ideas, there are several to check out in this post alongside a bottle or two of wine and some lovely frozen fruit and vegetables.
I do like a good old crisp. Ready salted, salt and vinegar or cheese and onion are my go to flavours but it’s always interesting to try something new. As you can see I had a whole host of flavours to try from Corkers. Three types of vegetable crisps: sweet potato with chilli, parsnip with honey and black pepper and simply salted beetroot, parsnip and sweet potato. For the potato flavours: sausage and english mustard, duck and hoisin sauce, sweet Thai chilli, salt and cider vinegar, salted, cheddar cheese and chive and salt and pepper. I’ll be honest and say that I liked them all but the flavours that I particularly enjoyed were the parnsip, honey and black pepper (like a batch of home roasted parsnips) and the sweet Thai chilli (not too hot, a really nice flavour). I have seen corkers in a few pubs so if you fancy something different with your pint or G&T, give these a try!
New In The Kitchen January 2016
It’s been another busy month in the All That I’m Eating kitchen, there’s been all sorts to try. I do love getting a parcel that’s full of something new or different that I may not have heard of or tried before; there’s always something going on! This new in the kitchen January round up is no different; pandan extract, elderflower iced tea and a whole host of things made out of coconut. I only ever put up products that I feel are worth trying; ideas for you to keep your eyes peeled for when you’re out and about.
Christmas Food and Gift Guide
If someone is kind enough to get me a gift for Christmas I love it when said gift is food or food related. I think it’s a very personal thing to give, whether it be something they have made themselves or taken time in choosing for you. This is my Christmas Food and Gift Guide; a range of different food and drink ideas from all sorts of places and companies.
Berry Brothers and Rudd had their Christmas preview all the way back in July when I ventured to the famous shop in London to learn more about their festive offerings. There were plenty of fabulous hampers, some just wine and some wine and food, to see and they all sounded great. A particular mention must go to the Cambrook caramelised peanuts that come in one of the hampers, they were absolutely delicious. Their signature gin (above) was very enjoyable too. Berry Brothers and Rudd don’t have a fantastic reputation and pedigree for nothing so you know if you’re getting wine from them it will be a fine example of that wine. They have launched their new book ‘Exploring and Tasting Wine’ which I am keeping my fingers crossed I get a copy of this year! Exploring and Tasting Wine is £30 and their hampers start at £31.50.
New in the kitchen November
It’s been a very busy time in the ATIE kitchen over the last few weeks, I have only just got round to writing this post! There have been some fab products to try out this month and last, and as usual, a good variety too. This month we’ve got: cookie roulette, Korean sauces, yoghurt, salami and milk. I didn’t try them all in one sitting of course!
First up I tried out cookie roulette! Each year ABF, The Soldiers’ Charity raises money for soldiers, veterans and their families and this year every box of these cookies sold means £2 gets donated to the charity. They are available here. I love that they are shaped like a chilli and it was good fun trying not to choose the one with chilli in. Luckily I didn’t get it as I had a nibble and it is unbelievably hot!
The Part Time Vegetarian Book
If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen some of the weekly meal plans I put up. I can’t live without a meal plan; I think I would implode. As I find them so useful, my thinking is that other people may find them handy or take some inspiration from them. Looking at how my meal planning has changed and what I choose to eat now there has been a real shift in my kitchen and I now eat vegetarian meals four (and often more) times a week and I’m always looking for new vegetarian recipes to try out.
One Pot Cook Book
As far as I am concerned food that can be prepared in one pot is most welcome in my kitchen. I’ll let you into a secret, although I feel it is one shared by many, I hate washing and drying up. And we don’t have a dishwasher. Anything that minimises time spent at the sink is a friend of mine. Don’t be misled, the One Pot Cook Book contains far more than just: chuck it in, lid on, in the oven. At the same time not everything in the book takes ages to cook; it’s not a 15 minute meal solution either but somewhere wholesome in between.
Crussh Book
The idea of smoothies and juices I really like; getting the nutrients (with or without the fibrous parts) in a convenient way really appeals. Not least because it gives me something to do with a fridge full of vegetables other than soup. The only thing that puts me off is the thought I needed another piece of kitchen equipment to be able to make my own. The publishers of Crussh, Nourish Books, got in touch to see if I’d like to try out the new book. I asked if a juicer was necessary and they said it wasn’t so I was looking forward to giving one of the recipes a try.
New in the kitchen for Organic September
This month’s ‘new in the kitchen’ post is all about organic products. As it’s Organic September it seems only fitting that all the new products I’ve been trying are both tasty and organic. Quite a mix this month too; tea, snacks, oatcakes and pies.
First up I tried the Caramel Rooibos Tea from Kromland Farm. They’ve been growing rooibos in South Africa since 1902 and produce all their teas in Britain. I have to say I tend to prefer a single estate tea (which Kromland is) to a blend, there’s something so nice about knowing it’s the produce all from one area rather than a mix from all over the place. I really like the flavour of this; it’s certainly rooibos but the hint of caramel gives it an additional flavour without being too overpowering. There’s no added sugar so although it feels like it’s a sweet treat it’s actually not; and I like that. All the treat and none of the guilt. I’ve enjoyed switching to this instead of my normal ‘builders’ cuppa.
New in the kitchen August
I know it’s technically September now and I’m slightly delayed in posting this but better late than never! I had all sorts of different things arrive on the ATIE kitchen table in August; burgers, soup, yoghurt and gin. All from some fab British companies. Take a look at what was new in the kitchen in August.
Mash Direct Vegetable Burgers
Mash Direct are based in County Down making all sorts of vegetable and potato products using older heritage varieties of veg (which they grow on their farm) in their dishes. I tried out their Vegetable Burgers with Cabbage; bread crumbed mash filled with broccoli, carrot, cauliflower, cabbage and parsnip.
I was really surprised how fresh the vegetables tasted and the balance of flavours was lovely. I cooked mine in the oven but you can also grill or BBQ them according to the pack; served in a nice fresh roll with mayonnaise they were surprisingly filling. I would definitely look out for these again as well as the other products they make.
